Research Question 5

  • What are the solutions?

In my research, I have found that solution to all hedonism problems can be solved by whom caused the problems itself. The only reason for why hedonism develop in Malaysia is because not all parts of the society play their roles effectively. So, all factors rooted from the irresponsible society, then they are the only problem solver to formulate all solutions to the hedonism. They know theirself better.

Firstly, family is the most significant institution that hold a big responsibility to handle their children. Parents should know their tasks to teach all young generations by acting as the role model for them and control of their children's activities. Lok Yim Pheng, the Secretary General for National Union of the Teaching Profession said, " Parents could control and monitor younger children but it was not that easy with older ones". This show that parents are the main solutions maker that must have strong commitment to solve hedonism bad effects. For example, they need to contol their children from enjoying cyber cafe's services too much. This can leads to another harmful effects on children if they are got trapped in addiction to the internet called webaholics.

Second, the authorities and media should make use of their power and specialty to create a better life and culture in Malaysia. In our country, life and culture of teenagers are monitored and influenced by authorities and mass medias such as printing and electronics. Furthermore, in new era, we have alternative medias such as blog, website and social website. So, they may provide solutions to hedonism by creating a campaign, articles and road tour to create awareness among schools and universities students. Other than that, authorities should control entertainment places by having a regular spot check so that it can reduces the involvement of under age students from having enjoyment there. Another authority that can play their role is Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ) and Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM). Roadblocks and 'operasi' can be taken as the measure to prevent teenagers from joining the illegal racing to get happiness and pleasure.

Last but not least, law enforcement can also be taken as the solution to hedonism. The enforcement of law can be made by rules and regulations to control the unhealthy culture in our community. Law provides penalty or punishment to the guilty. This create ''fear of punishment'' to the people so that they not go beyond the law. For example, rules and regulations has made to the unlicensed motorbikers. It includes license suspended, they be released on Parol, so that an officer monitors their movements and they have to check in with the officer and enrolment into community service, like cleaning and helping the poor. Not only that, heavy punishment should be taken for the effective result of law enforcement. It may includes fine and imprisonment.

So, these are the solutions that can be taken to solve hedonism in Malaysia.
